MindSlices is an artistic enterprise and studio devoted to producing interesting art deriving from a lifetime production of small designs termed “mindslices”. Over the past forty years, while pursuing a career in engineering and business, I produced thousands of small designs and pictures. The great majority aimlessly produced whilst engaged on phone calls, conferences or meetings. So, yes, doodles. Mostly small Post-it notes or hotel stationery, decorated with pens and markers. As this collection of tiny works grew to many thousands, produced without intent or purpose, I developed the conceit that the designs or images represented readouts or scans of the subconscious mind. In the same way that MRI or CT scanners might produce an image of the brain, these tiny images are scans or slices of the subconscious mind. They are a readout of what the mind is doing while focused on something else.

This collection of mindslices is now serving as the raw material and inspiration for work at MindSlices Studio, a light, airy, creativity enhancing space where the pens and markers have been replaced by charcoal, acrylics, pastels and oils and even venturing to ceramics and textiles. Large canvases, some reaching six feet have replaced these tiny notes. The body of work is growing and productivity has accelerated with the contributions of Studio Assistants Mirella and Chazz.
